What was the most important thing for you when searching for happy quotes? Any quote with the words happy or happiness in them?
Or are you looking for any quotation that makes you smile – a cute quote, a funny quote or an inspirational quote – anything that works I guess?
Not all our quotations have the word happy in them and in our view they don’t need to have that word to work as happy quotes.
Let us explain by first asking a question.
What’s the definition of a happy quote?
There are a few academic definitions given in dictionaries like Webster but the plain words given there can’t give an adequate explanation in my opinion.
You’ll find many quotes on this site that don’t have the word happy in them but to us they’re still happy quotes.
Our take on what makes any quotation a happy quote has more to do with power of words themselves. And how that power can affect how we see ourselves and how we conduct our lives.
Put another way, we mean that we believe that any quote that makes you stop to think and consider it in the context of your own life is a happy quote.
Check out the quotations for example on our one-liners page to see what we mean. No happy words there but they’re snappy, to the point and humorous with seriousness behind them.
And you could use them everyday like a tonic – if you believe in the power of the written and spoken word.
Get yourself a barrel of words and use them.
They’re the weapons of choice for those that would run your life for you. Don’t abandon the language to those whose motivation is purely self-centered.
You might want to disagree with these statements. After all, it’s your choice every time.
Perhaps you should think about what exactly the phrase, happy quotes, means to you?
It’s how you see it that matters
If any set of words, spoken, written or even sung, has the effect of making you say, yeah, that’s how I feel about this, then you are describing what a happy quote means to you.
Don’t be shy of what you think should be a happy quote – that will always be your choice – if it makes you happy then it’s true to you.
Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself,
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today.
I can choose which it shall be.
Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet.
I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.
Groucho Marx
Surprising outlook on life from one of the Marx Brothers I’d say. You would normally expect Groucho to wisecrack about this but I guess we have to take him at face value in this instance.
I guess living with Marx Brothers as a family might have been chaotic most of the time and Groucho might have felt a need to be more serious on occasion.
However, it’s decent advice to take on board and it’s certainly worth trying to live by this view which will benefit you if you succeed.
Our language is potent force acting upon us whether we are always conscious of it or not and words can be destructive as well as motivational.
I don’t think the source or the arrangement of the words matter that much. If any phrase has meaning for you, and if you can take something positive from them, does it matter if the spelling and grammar aren’t quite right?
It’s the effect of words that’s important – not their form
Whether the phrase is taken from the ancients or a modern popular song seems irrelevant to me – they can be any set of words that makes you say – yep, that sums up how I feel right now.
I believe that any quotation that is so well considered by the author that it touches on a common need in us all makes it a power for good that you can to help you strive to be happier and more successful in your daily life.
Each of us in our own little should make some effort to harness that power to widen our perspective on life and reach out to others.
Take responsibility for your own actions and thoughts and be a better citizen of your country and the world.
Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.
Benjamin Disraeli
Believe it – it really is only by doing something can you succeed or change things for you.
I think everyone accepts that but it’s the starting and keeping at it that’s difficult for most folk. Take a peek at some of the other articles on this site and you might find something useful there that you can use.
So what if you fail a few times – you’ve got to learn so take lessons from those mistakes and move on and leave the bruised ego behind you. You are the only one who can really guarantee your success in life.
That takes effort and a willingness to keep trying no matter what. It will also demand a determined self-believe that won’t be easily shaken by some mistakes and failures.
The following quote sums up that attitude nicely in that it suggests if you’re not taking part you can’t succeed. Yes you can fail but you just also might win. Being of a positive mindset is the thing here.
If yer failin’ yer playin’
